Direct Support Professional - help disabled adults thrive in the most challenging job you’ll love!
This is a unique opportunity for you to make an impact on peoples lives, helping adults with developmental disabilities thrive in the community. No two days will be the same, meaning you will develop new skills and act with a degree of independence on a regular basis. Well provide training and ongoing coaching, and your strong showing in this role could set you up to pursue career advancement along multiple career paths. California MENTOR is part of The MENTOR Network, a national network of local human services providers offering an array of quality, community-based services to clients.

We have opportunities for Direct Support Professionals DSPs in a variety of settings, including host homes, group residences, day programs and out in the community. As a DSP you will be central to the satisfaction and fulfillment of the consumers you work with -- you may be the eyes of those unable to see, or the voice for those who cant speak. For others, you may be friend, cheerleader and subtle support on the path to reaching their true potential. Specific activities may include driving consumers to classes or appointments, teaching them life skills, or helping them with day-to-day activities such as toileting and dressing.
 Requirements This job isn’t for everyone, but if you’ve got what it takes, this may be the most challenging job you’ll ever love. To be a good fit for this opportunity you will have a passionate commitment to helping others as well as understanding and patience. You’ll need a high school diploma or equivalent, a valid drivers license and good driving record, and access to a reliable, registered and insured vehicle. Experience working with adults with developmental disabilities including volunteering or working with a family member is preferred but not required.
