Registration for the 2014 Summer Math and Science Honors Academy (SMASH) is open

Registration for the 2014 Summer Math and Science Honors Academy (SMASH) is open until Feb.15, 2014. 

SMASH, a free residential pre-college program, will accept approximately 25 current 9th grade students to participate in a five-week, intensive, math and science academy. SMASH is geared toward high achieving, economically disadvantaged, high school students who are underrepresented in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) fields. 

The goals of SMASH are to:

1. Prepare students from underrepresented communities to be competitive in STEM related studies at competitive universities.
2. Educate students about graduate school opportunities and encourage them to eventually attend in order to further pursue professional, STEM-related studies or careers.
3. Encourage a sense of social responsibility through promotion of critical thinking, civic awareness and leadership.

Program Dates: June 21, 2014 - July 26, 2014
Number of Students: 25
Students Grade Level: Current 9th graders
Application Process: Students can start the application process by registering starting on Dec. 1, 2013 at https://smash.lpfi.org/login.php
Application Deadline: March 1, 2014 (Although the deadline date is March 1, 2014, students must register to verify their email by February 15, 2014)
