Six Steps to Take in Conducting a Successful Job Search

Looking for a new job whether due to a lay-off or due to a desire to undertake a new career challenges, can be daunting. Thankfully, there are some steps you can take to ensure that you are successful in meeting your goal of finding a new career.

1. The first step is to put on paper what you are looking for in your next job. It's not enough to say that you want more money. In fact, studies have shown that job satisfaction comes from many other things including interesting and challenging work, good working relationships, non monetary benefits and opportunities for advancement. So, write down everything you would like in your next role including commuting time or location, industry type, corporate culture, etc.

2. The next step is to review your resume if you have one. If you don't have one, then you will need to get an up to date resume completed before you can continue with the next steps.. If you do have one that's out of date, then update it. During this process, you will need to ensure that your resume adequately reflects the type of role you are looking for. In short, your resume needs to be targeted to the position you're seeking.. As an example, if you've got experience as a customer service representative and want to move in to a sales representative role, you will need to make sure that your resume includes details on how your current skills as a customer service rep can be transferred to a sales role.. In other words, you will need to discuss how you've up sold clients to other products, uncovered customer problems and provided solutions.

3. The third step is to set up some career alerts to come into your email inbox. You can do this at a website called Indeed. This website can perform searches in several countries around the world and (I believe) every city in each of those countries. This job search engine will pull jobs from every company website and job board for the city and job "key words" you've selected. You can set it to send you opportunities every day or every week. Then you can submit your resume online to those opportunities.

4. The fourth step is to cold contact companies you're interested in working for. These are companies that may not necessarily be advertising any openings at the moment. But, sooner or later they will have an opening and it may be just right for you. If, by chance, you can meet with the hiring manager of the team you've interested in working for before the job opening is published on the internet, you may get lucky and land the job.. The great thing about this strategy is that you can potentially eliminate your competition. It's much easier and less expensive to interview and hire one person then to advertise a job opening, sift through thousands of resumes, interview dozens of candidates and then put out an offer.

5. The fifth step is to brush up on your interviewing skills. See if you can talk a friend or family member into a role play with you. Have them ask you five to ten questions and practice answering them until you feel comfortable.

6. The sixth and final step is to relax. It can take time to land the right job for you. It can take many weeks or months to find the right job.. But, just because a couple of days have gone by without hearing back on a resume you've submitted or an interview you've completed, doesn't mean you should assume you've lost the opportunity. Keep looking and keep your cool and you will find the perfect job..

Where to Protect Your Money If There's A Financial Crash

If you are concerned about a financial crash and the devaluation of the dollar, there are several options to consider for protecting your money: Diversify your portfolio: It's important to diversify your investments across different asset classes, such as stocks, bonds, real estate, and commodities. This will help spread your risk and minimize the impact of any one investment on your overall portfolio. Invest in precious metals: Gold and silver have traditionally been considered safe havens during times of economic uncertainty. Investing in these metals can provide a hedge against inflation and currency devaluation. Consider foreign currencies: Investing in foreign currencies, such as the euro or yen, can provide a hedge against a falling dollar. However, this strategy carries currency risk, and it's important to carefully research and evaluate the risks and potential returns. Hold cash: Holding cash in a safe and secure location can provide peace of mind during times of ...
