Do you feel bored and unmotivated at work? Do you count the hours until you can go home, or count the days until the weekend? Whatever it is that is making your work seem uninspiring, there is a way that you can improve the way you feel towards your work. It takes adopting a positive mindset and a growth mindset towards your work, and you will be amazed at the difference it will make about how you feel about your job. After all, you are at work most of the day, so you may as well start enjoying it.
Firstly you need to clarify your career and work goals. It is very easy to feel demotivated if you don't have a clear picture of where you are going to. Try and see how your daily tasks contribute to a bigger picture. Make goals for yourself within your workplace and make sure that they are SMART (specific, measurable, achievable, relevant to your needs and time-bound). Set a series of smaller goals to tackle throughout the year to get you closer to your main goals.
Next you need to organize yourself, your goals and establish a plan for accomplishing them. If you learn to stick to the plan and chart your progress, this will lend meaning and enjoyment to your daily routine. Make sure to create a manageable schedule that handles all your workload and in this way you will gain a sense of empowerment and accomplishment. This will give you an extra boost of motivation to carry on to new heights. Try not to overwhelm yourself with too many targets, as this is when dissatisfaction and demotivation often follow.
Reward yourself and celebrate your successes, even if the company that you work for doesn't show its appreciation. In this way you will set about your next task with a positive mindset and you will be motivated to aim even higher the next time around. If you feel you deserve some recognition, treat yourself to a special lunch or an afternoon at the spa. Let your colleagues know that you are pleased with your own performance, just beware of sounding smug and self-satisfied.
Choose to be positive and focus what is right about your job rather than all the things you hate. If you remind yourself of all the ups, you will change the way you feel about your duties and your working environment. Volunteer for more of the aspects of your job that you do enjoy and try and make your days as interesting and varied as possible. If you extend yourself you will improve your positive mindset and motivational thoughts. You are also more likely to be noticed by your superiors and thus will feel more appreciated.
Most importantly, be flexible within your goal planning. Feel free to change or abandon certain goals as you progress along your career path. If you are open to change you will be able to capitalize on unexpected opportunities as they come along. Be open to change within the organization and adapt with the changing times. Remain positive, focused, proactive and keep working on that positive mindset.
